Our Decarbonization Strategy

Circular Economy

Wascosa applies circular economy principles throughout the freight wagon lifecycle, guided by the 6 Rs: rethink, refuse, reduce, repair, reuse and recycle. We focus on durable wagon design, lifecycle extension and responsible end-of-life management.

Emissions

We support the shift from road to rail through innovative freight wagon solutions. Our fleet of over 22,000 wagons helps avoid more than 11.5 million tonnes of CO₂ annually, thereby contributing to our customers' decarbonisation goals and the EU Green Deal.

Energy

We are committed to increasing energy efficiency and expanding the use of renewable energy at our sites. All our own energy contracts are based on renewable energy sources. Throughout our entire value chain, we promote responsible energy use.

Waste

We promote responsible waste management and resource-efficient practices at our locations and throughout the lifecycle of our freight wagons. Thanks to the conversion work, refurbishment and recycling that we do as well as the sustainable disposal methods that we apply, we maximise the service life of our assets and minimise waste wherever possible.

Water and Wastewater

We promote responsible water and wastewater management across our operations. By working with certified suppliers and maintenance partners, we ensure compliance with recognised environmental standards and that wastewater is properly managed.

Noise Pollution

We are committed to reducing noise pollution in rail freight transport. By equipping our fleet with modern brake systems, we significantly reduce noise pollution caused by freight wagons.
